Travel
Since the timid beginnings of New France, the vital means of communication between its colonies remained the waterways. The boat was the best transportation the people of the Laurentian valley could use to do business with the French settlements of Acadia and Louisiana and obtain provisions of various types of goods from their homeland. The Saint Lawrence River and its network of tributaries was a practical way to travel deep inside the territory and contributed to the exploitation of its natural resources.
