Le junco ardoisé se retrouve dans l'ensemble du territoire québécois, mais on le localise plus précisément dans les basses-terres du Saint-Laurent et dans les Maritimes. En hiver, il traverse les frontières américaines pour s'installer dans l'est du pays. Il niche habituellement dans les clairières, à la lisière des forêts mixtes ou de conifères, là où le sol est broussailleux et jonché de troncs d'arbres. Son alimentation se compose d'insectes et de graines. Il mesure entre 15 et 17 cm.

The Dark-eyed Junko can be found throughout the entire territory of Quebec, but will be found more especially in the lowlands of the St. Lawrence and in the Maritime provinces. In the winter, it crosses the American border and sets up residence in the eastern region of the United States. It usually nests in clearings, along the edges of mixed or conifer forests, where the ground is thick with bushes and strewn over with tree trunks. Its diet is made up mainly of insects and seeds. Its length is 15 to 17 cm.
