Farouche, le bruant des marais niche dans les marais d'eau douce où la végétation est haute, au bord des étangs, à la décharge de lacs, dans les prés humides, les tourbières et parfois même dans les prés salés. Localisé dans tout le sud du Québec et dans les Maritimes, le bruant des marais se retrouve davantage aux États-Unis en hiver, où il migre. Bien que les graines constituent près de 97% de son alimentation, au printemps et lors de la nidification, il se nourrit essentiellement d'insectes. La longueur de l'oiseau est de 13 à 15 cm.

The Swamp Sparrow is a shy bird that nests in freshwater swamps where the vegetation grows high, along the edges of ponds, around lake outlets, in humid prairies, in peat bogs, and sometimes even in saltwater grasslands. It is located throughout southern Quebec and in the Maritimes, but during the winter the Swamp Sparrow is more commonly present in the United States where it migrates. Although seeds make up close to 97% of its diet, in the spring and during the nesting period it feeds essentially on insects. The length of the bird is 13 to 15 cm.
