Recherché comme gibier, le fuligule à tête rouge a un vol puissant qui peut atteindre une vitesse de 68 km/h. Amateur de marais d’eau douce et d’étangs peu profonds à végétation dense, il est répandu un peu partout en Amérique du Nord. Au Québec, on l’observe sur le Haut-Saint-Laurent et dans le sud de la province. Canard plongeur, il a un régime alimentaire à 90 % végétarien, l’amenant ainsi à se nourrir de tiges, de feuilles et de racines de plantes aquatiques. En période de ponte, les canes consomment des invertébrés. Le fuligule à tête rouge a une longueur de 43 à 58 cm.

Much sought-after as a game bird, the Redhead has a powerful flight that can reach a speed of 68 kmph. Fond of freshwater marshes and shallow ponds with dense vegetation, it is common throughout most of North America. In Québec, it is found in the Upper Saint Lawrence and in the southern part of the province. A diving duck, its diet is 90% vegetarian, which leads it to also feed on the reeds, leaves and roots of aquatic plants. During the egg-laying period, the females feed on invertebrates. The length of the Redhead is 43 to 58 cm.
