Economic Inferiority of French Canadians

At the turn of the 1900s, French Canadians were in a position of considerable economic inferiority. For rural Québec to develop, farmers, small manufacturers, merchants, and craftspeople needed access to credit in order to develop their activities, increase productivity, and boost their earnings. Without economic tools tailored to their needs, it was impossible to rival large capitalists.
