More evolved than a shoulder bag, this seed drill was used to sow seeds in the spring on plowed land. The grain distributor is between the wheels.

Controlled by the farmer and pulled by an ox, horse, or pair of animals, the plow was used to till the land, loosening the soil before the seeds were sown. The ‘coulter'—the cutting blade fixed to the front of the plow shovel—is missing.

Starting in the 1900s, farming began losing ground in the Québec economy. The percentage of the labor force working on farms fell from 45.5% in 1881 to just 19.3% in 1941.
