Industrialization changed people's lives forever. Capitalism became the main driving force of the economy, and the traditional farm-based way of life fell by the wayside. The city, with its large and diverse population, was central to community life and the economy. The factory replaced the farm, the neighborhood replaced the village, and rental housing replaced property. Everyday objects were now made in factories.
