The Good French Canadian

Traditional French Canadian values, bolstered by the church and the government, were based on working the land. The stereotypical habitant was a devoted Catholic who loyally obeyed the clergy, was attached to his language, cultivated the land, believed in hard work, had a large family, led a modest life, and was wary of ambition.
