Andirons, Bracket, Pot Hanger, Griddle

Andirons, Bracket, Pot Hanger, Griddle

19th century (griddle)
Iron
Andirons are large supports used in pairs to hold firewood in the hearth. They have hooks from which a spit can be hung at the desired height for roasting poultry or other types of meat. A pot could be hung at the top to heat or keep small portions warm.
Brackets were mounted inside the hearth to hold cooking pots with handles over the fire. The notches carved into the bracket crossbar kept the pots from slipping.
The pot hanger usually served as an extension of the chimney hook. A series of pot hangers were often linked together to make a chimney hook.
Griddles were used to cook cakes or crepes over the fire.
Except for the griddle, all of these objects are reproductions.
