Religion was very important in the colony, and every small village had its church. Sometimes, a seigneur's private residence had its own chapel. The chapel at Manoir Mauvide-Genest was built well after the end of the seigneurial regime in 1929 by the judge Joseph-Camille Pouliot, a descendent of the Genest family.
