This box was used to store and conserve cakes. It is decorated with illustrations by German artist Wilhelm von Kaulbach (1805–1874) depicting characters from Goethe's novel The Sufferings of Young Werther. Goethe, a famous German writer, was born in 1749 and died in 1832.
