This candy tin contained goodies made by the Candiac company of Québec City. An inset portrait of Marquis de Montcalm, the Wolfe and Montcalm monument in Québec City, and the old Beauport manor Montcalm chose as his headquarters are all illustrated on the tin. The Montcalm family motto also features: “My innocence is my fortress.” Louis Joseph de Saint-Véran, Marquis de Montcalm, was born in 1712 in Candiac Castle, close to Nîmes in France. He was mortally wounded while defending Québec City at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759.
