Madeleines are small, traditional, soft-dough cakes from Lorraine, France. They can be shell-shaped, elongated, or round, and they made a name for the town of Commercy in Meuse, France, where they have been baked since the 18th century. A symbol of conviviality, they are perfect for dipping in a warm drink while chatting with a friend. French author Marcel Proust (1871–1922) made the pastry famous in his novel Swann's Way, the first volume of Remembrance of Things Past.
Loaned by Colette Bardou-Therrien to Musée L'Aventure Leclerc
