In 1893 a young pharmacist from North Carolina, U.S.A., began concoting various types of “soft drinks,” which he had his friends at the pharmacy sample. In 1898 one of his recipes was baptized Pepsi-Cola and registered as a trademark in 1903. Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola, two great rivals, have been at loggerheads ever since.
