FROM THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH

    earth's crust
Diamonds form far beneath the Earth’s crust.

WHERE DO DIAMONDS FORM?
The ultrahigh pressure under which carbon atoms are « squeezed » into diamond is difficult to imagine. Such pressures are found in nature. But to find them, one must penetrate the Earth’s crust and go down, down, down...

THE DIAMOND AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL
What does diamond-bearing magma look like? The best way to find out is first hand, like a geologist or prospector, in one of the tunnels that provide access to a kimberlite pipe.

As you walk through the tunnel, a faithful reproduction of the « real thing, » note the way the rock formation changes.

There may even have been diamonds at the time of the dinosaurs...
