THE POWER OF LIGHTNING – FROM INDIA TO THE MEDITERRANEAN
Historians concur that the earliest reference to diamond - a term that already indicated its association with flashing brilliance and power - was made in India.

THE 17TH CENTURY - DID YOU KNOW?
Around 1600, gems assumed greater importance than their settings, and the role of metal was reduced to that of a framework. A major change that coincided with peak production of diamonds in India.

Beautifully offset by their rose or brilliant cuts, diamonds are found in many jewels.

THE 18TH CENTURY - DID YOU KNOW?
It was good form to wear a diamond parure – a matched set of jewellery - rather than a miscellany of jewels of different types. Abundant supplies from South Africa from the 1870s onwards made diamonds available to all who could afford them.
