From the time Séminaire de Québec was founded in
1663, Mgr. François de Laval encouraged the pooling of
books for the benefit of the community and education.
This philosophy gave rise to a library of immense wealth
and national interest. The first works to have circulated
in the colony were housed there, along with original
editions of narratives of 17th and 18th century explorers.
This library also holds numerous brochures and printed
materials on science, law, philosophy, literature, music,
art, geography, and history as well as incunabula and
very old editions of great value.
The entire collection
covers the period from the 16th to 20th centuries.
