The Musée de la civilisation complex in Québec City features a campanile, an 18th century house with an inner courtyard, a rowboat from the same era, a stone wharf, a monumental sculpture symbolizing ice breakup, numerous exhibition rooms, auditoriums, and hands-on rooms, to wich are added a history museum, interpretation centre, and two historic sites.
Some 18 years after it first opened, the Musée de la civilisation is now more than ever the Museum for and of the people. The Musée de la civilisation has won over visitors through the international scope of its numerous exhibitions and its unusual take on unorthodox themes. Hundreds of thousands continue to come every year. Alongside the exhibitions are cultural and educational activities that allow visitors to gain deeper insight into the various themes through fun activities, educational programs, talks, movies, shows, and workshops. Our museum is unquestionably the Museum of human adventure!
Tuned into today’s world, the Museum is always on the lookout for new ways to promote and present its cultural products. The design and launch of its website—already a winner of a number of awards—is just one example of its desire to reach out to visitors. This year, the website has a brand new look: it is more dynamic, easier to use, and features more headings. Online visitors can consult the program of exhibitions and activities presented throughout the museum complex. What is more, some content and activities (virtual exhibitions, features, and games) can only be accessed online!
With the diversity, wealth and quality of its cultural products, and multiple means of artistic presentation, this still-young Museum has a very impressive track record.
I invite you to discover its many face. And remember—we’re just as pleased to welcome you virtually as in person. Our Museum is your Museum!
