Since its 1988 opening, Musée de la civilisation has adhered to its policy of fostering and developing close relationships within Québec, Canadian, and international museum networks.

A National and International Presence
Musée de la civilisation works with other museums in Québec and the rest of Canada, and is active on the international scene. Since Québec museums are its key partners, Musée de la civilisation’s has honed an approach over the years that takes into account the unique situations of the regions it visits, the needs of various audiences, and the skills of the teams on site. Musée de la civilisation exhibitions have been presented in every region of Québec. Other collaborations, such as coproductions and exhibition exchanges, also benefit both the Museum and its natural partners.
In the Canadian museum network, Musée de la civilisation has attracted attention for its exhibitions including Dragons, Between Science and Fiction, staged in Edmonton; The Odyssey of Light and Rock ‘n Metal,held in Ottawa; Salt Essentials, presented to audiences in Moncton and Halifax; and Three Countries in One Suitcase,which ran in Prince Rupert and Winnipeg. The Museum fosters exchanges of exhibitions, internships, and training programs.
On the international scene, the Museum’s presence has been felt in a number of countries with exhibitions like Fascinating Egyptian Mummies presented in four cities in Japan; Gold of the Americas on display for audiences in Paris, France; Gratia Dei: A Journey Through the Middle Ages hitting the United States, Germany, Belgium, and France; and Ingenious Africa having completed a four-country African tour to Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Benin.
The international reputation the Museum has built abroad is based on a variety of initiatives ranging from exploratory missions to professional meetings, expertise exchanges, cooperation and coproduction agreements, exhibition tours, collection loans, and participation in conferences. The last 20 years have been replete with successful international activities of all kinds on every continent.
