Before the Europeans arrived, nomadic Aboriginal groups frequenting Québec’s headland crafted various tools. They had many uses for chert, a local stone found at or near the cliff, as well as for bone. Their stonecutter’s skills, passed down through a long tradition, were gradually lost as metal tools brought by the Europeans came into use.
