Throughout a daily routine steeped in prayers, rules and traditions,
the pupils of the Petit Séminaire learned to recite Latin
declensions, handle test tubes and grasp the law of gravity. The
priests taught them self-discipline, as they would soon become the
elite of society. In the shade of the great elm tree in the centre
of the courtyard, they argued, shared their dreams and their fears,
and played hockey. Full of curiosity and ambition, they fervently
expressed their opinions in
l'Abeille to better their understanding
of the world and its impulses. The physics laboratories, the collections
of the Seminary and the proximity of the university stimulated their
interests and fired their imaginations, preparing them for the adult
world and for public life.
