December 10, 1948. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights comes into force. From that time onwards, human rights and human dignity were recognized as the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. This was fifty years ago. Today we celebrate and pay tribute to the efforts of the people from the four corners of the globe who have helped secure rights and freedoms. We must, however, remain vigilant! Much remains to be done before we can claim victory.
