Revelations

Understanding the World Through Art

The exhibition Revelations presents the rich fine arts collection of Séminaire de Québec. It includes works from the European school and renowned Québec artists, such as Joseph Légaré, Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté and Jean Paul Lemieux, as well as prints, sculptures and gold and silverware.

Artistic, Symbolic and Historical Revelations

This exhibition is a unique opportunity to admire unsung national treasures. It presents over 100 works from the masterful Seminary collection, which includes over 900 European and Canadian paintings, nearly 25,000 works on paper, approximately 100 sculptures and 1,000 pieces of gold and silverware.

Revelations features pieces of Québec heritage, many of which are true references for painting techniques, aesthetics and history, and with their particular contexts of creation and acquisition.

Through this stylistic panorama, also discover the history of the Seminary - 350 years of life in service to the Church and the population of Québec.

Among the artists, sculptors, jewelers and goldsmiths whose work appears in the exhibition are:

  • Joseph Légaré
  • Antoine Plamondon
  • Théophile Hamel
  • Alfred Laliberté
  • James Pattison Cockburn
  • Ozias Leduc
  • Maurice Galbraith Cullen
  • Jean Paul Lemieux
  • Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté
  • Jacques de l'Ange
  • Thomas Baillairgé
  • Pierre Émond
  • Louis Jobin
  • Guillaume Loir
  • François Ranvoyzé
  • And even a print based on a Rubens.

Musées de la civilisation has been custodian of the Séminaire de Québec priests' collection since 1995. The exhibition was produced by Les Musées de la civilisation to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Séminaire de Québec.

Designed and produced by Musées de la civilisation in cooperation with Séminaire de Québec.
