René Lévesque is indisputably a key figure in Quebec's political landscape. His career, his style and his achievements remain sources of great interest to this day and, for many, they elicit admiration or, at the very least, great respect.
To pay tribute to him during the celebrations surrounding his 100th birthday, the Musée de la civilisation and the Fondation René-Lévesque are working together to prepare an exhibition that paint an intimate portrait of the famous political and public figure.

Apart from this public image, what do we really know about him? Younger generations know very little about his career as a journalist and a war correspondent for the US Army or about his rise in politics. And few Quebeckers know about his tumultuous childhood and adolescence or his leap into adulthood as a different, highly intelligent and brash young man.
The exhibition highlight the significant stages in René Lévesque's life that shaped his personality until his death in 1987. The presentation focus on archival documents and significant objects and offer visitors the opportunity to explore these little-known facets of René Lévesque, from the perspective of his personality and his character traits, which shaped him as a human being, a son, a father, a man of the people and a gifted politician. Prepare yourself for a powerful yet sensitive exhibition, full of nuances.
