Transformation of the Musée de l'Amérique francophone

Towards a new museum complex

In recent months, the Musée de la civilisation has begun the vast transformation project of the Musée de l'Amérique francophone. Under the impetus of a major donation of $ 5 million from the great patron Roland Lepage, the first milestones to lead in 2024 to the opening of the new Cité du Séminaire have started.

This awaited museum complex will include a "Musée du Séminaire", a "Maison des sciences" and, finally, "La Réserve", which will be made up of collaborative spaces in archeology, archives and old books. The set will provide the community with access to the precious collections of the Séminaire, which are highlighted in an exceptional way.

What happens to the exhibitions?

To make room for the projects planned in the transformation plan of the Musée de l'Amérique francophone (MAF), the two exhibitions which were previously presented there, Mutations (2015) and Partir sur la route des francophones (2010) are now over.

Many visitors have been able to discover these wonderful exhibitions over the past few years, as well as La Colonie retrouvée (2013), which ended in September 2019.

A new permanent exhibition planned for 2023 will take place at the Musée de la civilisation, and will be an opportunity to revisit the theme and the spirit of the latter, which will have allowed us to trace our collective timeline.

No exhibition at the Musée de la civilisation is affected by this change.

Continuation of certain activities

The programming activities of the Musée de la civilisation and private events will be maintained in the Chapel of the Seminaire, as will site visits during the summer period as well as the activities of the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques.

Also, the archives consultation room in the Jérôme-Demers pavilion will remain accessible to researchers, according to the same schedule.

The opportunity is unique to preserve an exceptionally rich heritage and to highlight a human history to inspire, educate and transform society.
